Well fans, it seems like only yesterday we awaited the exhibition season with bated breath. Now, the Super Bowl is behind us, and there will be nothing worth reading about in the sports pages until the draft next spring. (I apologize in advance to fans of WSU basketball.) Naturally, now that we are having a cold winter, it's too cold to be outside, and there is not enough snow to fire up the snow machines and follow the trails from one caravanserie to the next. Life sucks, but this, too, will pass.
At least the big game maintained its drama into the fourth quarter when Rex Grossman experienced his meltdown to the delight of all his critics, who will spend the next year asking Lovey Smith what it will take for him to finally bench Grossman.
And now both Tony Dungy and Peyton Manning will be able to shake off the loser persona, Dungy for being too nice, and Manning for choking on the big one. In fact, Tony Dungy will go down as proof positive that nice guys do not, necessarily, finish last. I feel better for him than I did for Phil Mickelson when he broke through to win a major.
Come to think of it, the Masters is right around the corner...
