From: Roger and Ramona Metz
I have been blessed with having been involved with organizations that gave me the opportunity to meet and greet some of the famous or celebrities. My early years in business started out working for American Airlines at Chicago Midway Airport in the late 50's. I worked in passenger service and met and served people such as Tyrone Power, Van Heflin, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Gene Autry, Leu Thess and Gorgeous George ( Two all time great professional wrestlers), Arthur Godfrey and his entire show . Arthur always flew his own plane but the rest of the members of the show were travelers on American along with many other celebrities. I realize you have to be a certain age to remember many of these folks.
When Ramona and I were in Washington D.C. for a meeting in 1994 Ramona shook hands with President Clinton and presented him with a Community Memorial Hospital sweatshirt. We received a letter from him thanking us for it.
Also, Winona has been fortunate to have celebrities come to the community. Examples, Art Linkletter for a YMCA anniversary celebration, Elizabeth Dole for a Red Cross event and because of the generosity of Ben Miller and the Miller family golfing greats for the classic. I am sure there have been others.
We have also been fortunate to know many local celebrities over the years, who, without their hard work, dedication and concern for our area and communities we wouldn't have the quality of life we have today. We say thank you to them. Good idea Fran.
