4.8 SKATE PARK-OPEN

The Skate Park is open for the season. The hours during the school year are Monday through Friday, 3-9 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday 1-9 p.m. and Summer hours are 1-9 p.m. daily. There are no age requirements. Helmets are strongly recommended while all other safety equipment are also recommended such as knee/elbow pads, appropriate footwear and shirts. Skateboards, rollerblades and BMX bikes are allowed. The park is free and open to everyone. Specific rules are posted at the park along with other important information. Please be respectful of the Skate Park, Supervisors and each other. Check out the upgraded "Spine"-the kids say it's great. Come enjoy the Park and check out the changes.

ADULT SOFTBALL LOCAL RULE OF THE WEEK

A home run is when the ball is hit over the fence, all runners on bases and the person hitting the home run must run the bases in all our Winona Park & Recreation Leagues.

SUMMER PROGRAM REGISTRATION-MAY 7TH

The program guide has been delivered through the mail to customers in our database . Please feel free to call us at 457-8258 to be added to the mailing. If you do not receive a guide you can stop down to the Park & Rec. Dept. or get a copy at our website, www.cityofwinona-mn.com. Walk in registration starts May 7th.Take advantage of Early Bird prices on programs and Aquatic Center memberships too! Regular walk-in registration begins May 7th at 8:00 am.

HERSHEY'S TRACK AND FIELD PROGRAM

Hershey's Track and field will introduce children to physical fitness through basic events like running, jumping and throwing. The program also strives to encourage children to reach their potential and develop a sense of accomplishment. A regional and state meet are held in June and July. The program runs on Tuesday and Thursdays, at 8:30-10 a.m. from June 12-August 9 and is for ages 9-14 year olds. Register by June 14 to get the early bird rate.

YOUTH AND ADULT TENNIS

Youth tennis program consists of different age and ability levels, ages 6 and above. Adult tennis program has Beginner and Intermediate/Advanced levels running June 12-July 5, beginner on Tuesday and Thursday nights and Intermediate/Advanced running on Monday and Wednesday nights. CAMPS FOR ALL AGES

Park & Recreation office offers a variety of camps for children. Preschool Camp is for ages 3-5 year olds to discover life's wonders in a safe, fun, educational and social environment. EZ Camp is for Grades K-2, explore through games, activities and adventures with appreciation for art, science, nature and our community . Explorer Camp is for Grades 3 to 5, journey through a week of lakes, bluffs, nature and fun. For more information contact the Park & Recreation office for a summer brochure guide.

RECREATION CENTER HOURS-UPDATE

The East Rec. Center new hours are September to May 31 will be Monday through Fridays, 3-9 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday from 1-9 p.m. The West Rec. Center new hours are September to May 31; Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays 3-9 p.m., Tuesdays 6-9 p.m. and Saturday & Sundays from 1-9 p.m.

SUMMER JOB APPLICATIONS

Part time job applications are available for the Summer 2007 positions. Stop down at the Park & Recreation office and pick one up or go online at www.cityofwinona-mn.com and print one out. Deadline is May 1, 2007 to receive your application, apply now.

ACTIVITIES CANCELLATION NUMBER-457-8220

For your convenience, the Winona Park & Recreation Department has a cancellation number that you can call in case of bad weather, call 457-8220. If you feel a game, practice or special event might be cancelled; you may call this number. Listen carefully and follow the directions given on the recording. If there is no recording or an outdated recording, it means that there are NO CANCELLATIONS at that time. Cancellations will also be made on the radio stations. Please use this service instead of calling our office number.

LODGE AND SHELTER RENTALS

Starting January of each year, you can reserve for following year!!!! Need a lodge or shelter for your family gathering, picnic, wedding, baby shower, graduation, birthday party, etc. You can chose from Holzinger Lodge, Lake Park Lodge, Valley Oaks Lodge, Jaycee Shelter, Lions Shelter, Kiwanis Shelter, Latsch Shelter, Gilmore Valley Shelter, Windom Park or Rose Garden Gazebo and the Bandshell. We are now taking bookings for the current year and the 2007 season. Reservations are required in person, full payment and a valid driver's license.

EQUIPMENT RENTAL

Having a picnic or event and you need a volleyball, basketball, bingo, Frisbees, horseshoes, gunny sacks, etc. Winona Park & Recreation Department has equipment that you can rent out for your event. Stop in and complete the rental request form at least 3 days prior to when you need the equipment.

LOST AND FOUND ITEMS

If you have lost any items, such as keys, softball gloves, jackets, etc. During our programs or when using our facilities, we may have them in our lost and found box at the Recreation office, City Hall. Please stop in to identify the items.

ACTIVE WELLNESS CENTER

Do you want stronger arms for better hugs? Or do you want to age on your own terms, then come to the new Active Wellness Center at the Senior Friendship Center. Memberships available for persons 55 and over. Stop in the Recreation Department in City Hall, to purchase your membership or call the Winona Senior Friendship Center at 454-5212 for more information on our Active Wellness Center.
