This summer the Cotter High School marching band will travel to Chicago to march in the Lions Parade on July 4th. The Cotter Band will be representing the Lions of Multiple District MD5M. This encompasses all of Minnesota, Manitoba and western Ontario. There are 12 Lions districts and 680 clubs in this multiple district and about 24,000 Lions.
Present at this convention will be the governors of the 756 districts from around the world, as well as, the same number of District Governor Elects who will be taking office at the conclusion of the convention, The number of participants at this years convention may be as high as 15,000, since this is the 90th anniversary of Lionism. Chicago is the birthplace and International headquarters of Lions Clubs International.
The governor for District 5M1, which includes the 8 counties of southeastern Minnesota is Jack Krage of Winona, and also an alumnus of Cotter.
The Band will also perform at the Morton Grove July 4th Celebration parade and Thursday July 5 at the United Center.
