Auxiliary volunteer, author donates children’s books (06/20/2007)
Winona Health Auxiliary volunteer and recently published author Marianne Morrison donated several boxes her books to be given to children at Community Memorial Hospital.

"In addition to all Marianne does as an Auxiliary volunteer, we appreciate her generous donation. We're sure children and families will enjoy these charming stories," said Nancy Brown, Winona Health Foundation executive director.

Originally written in 1992 for her grandchildren, the three-book series is set in Winona and was inspired by the ducks around Lake Winona. "I'd see the ducks on my daily walk and found them so entertaining," said Morrison. "I thought how nice it would be for more children to see and enjoy the ducks."

Morrison's grandchildren and their parents enjoyed the stories so much they encouraged her to submit them to a publisher. The series, called the Saddleshoe Quackers, was published by Singing River Publications, Inc. in Ely, Minnesota. Titles include: Tuggy Isn't Scared, Lucky's Adventure and Cappy's Lesson. Marianne notes that the stories are intended to encourage families to enjoy outdoor activities and to study the local ducks to see what they can learn from their habits and their sometimes funny behavior.
