The Winona Community Foundation announces its second competitive General Fund grant cycle for 2007. "Grants of up to $7,500 will be awarded to projects in Winona and surrounding communities that use creative approaches to address community needs", says president Lisa Fakler.
To be considered for a grant award, organizations need to deliver a one-page letter of inquiry to the Foundation office at 51 E. 4th St., Suite 314 in Winona by August 1, 2007 at noon. Letters must include brief information on the following points: project description, community need, desired outcomes, collaboration, sustainability, timeline, grant amount requested and other funding sources being sought.
A ranking process is used by the Foundation's grant committee to review all projects. Projects that best fit the established guidelines are then asked to submit full applications.
Agencies will be notified by August 29 as to whether they are invited to move to the full application stage, with awards being announced November 1.
"This process allows the committee to prioritize projects based on our guidelines, which is necessary since there are always many more requests for support than we can fund," noted Fakler.
To help grant seekers understand the Foundation's guidelines, a workshop will be held July 18, 3:30pm-4:30pm in the Merchant's Bank board room. Grant seekers are also encouraged to contact Foundation staff with questions at 507-454-6511 or wincomf@hbci.com.
Grants are for projects in Winona and adjacent counties, and will only be awarded to 501©3 agencies or agencies with appropriate fiscal sponsors. Agencies may only apply for funding once per calendar year.
