A Matter of Faith (08/19/2007)

From: Lorraine Redig

Winona

Judge Dennis Challeen recently observed that our justice system isn't addressing the lack of moral values which is the actual cause of crime.

Moral values are not located in, or taught by competition for self-interest. The natural results such as poverty, crime, abortion, our unhealthy food system, and war show that the competitive lifestyle is not a happy way to live.

God's light doesn't shine through people of God when we violate the Greatest Commandment by dividing between competitive conservatives and competitive liberals to change the results of their competition for materialistic self-interest. That fixes nothing. The fruit of competition continues to develop.

We are called to sing for joy for love of the Lord. That happiness would attract the attention of those who are searching for a happier way of life. Than, in their terrible teachable moments they could discover that morality and respect for life are not outdated!

Uniting in love of God and all humanity would give people of God the power to make common-good changes in policy. That is how grassroots respect-for-life movements, such as efforts to give women voting rights succeeded.

We can become a nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all, by uniting to shed remaining unjust traditions such as

(1) the discrimination against the "working poor", who produce many of life's basic necessities in the "supply and demand" system. They have in justice earned a human rights level wage.

(2) the discrimination that allows profit maximizing agreements on pieces of paper (corporations) to unconstitutionally buy our national political/economic policy through "contributions". Corporate CEO's use this legalized bribery to run this republic for their profit and power, not for the people.

It is up to the people who love God and neighbors to correct those errors. We are called to work for justice. We are called to serve one another.

You can make the difference. Join some of the many grassroots movements that are working to establish respect for all life policy, such as the Land Stewardship Project and the Green Party.
