Postpartum Depression: Beyond the Baby Blues

Ruth Ener, R.N., is a strong advocate for postpartum depression (PPD) education since the tragic deaths of her sister-in-law and niece in August 2003. In 2005 the Ener family successfully advocated for a law requiring PPD education materials to be available at all hospitals and clinics throughout the state of Minnesota. Ruth will present an overview of a range of postpartum mood disorders that go beyond the "baby blues" including prevalence, symptoms, risk factors, assessment tools and treatments. This presentation about a family's real story will leave you with information about what we should be looking for and what families and professionals need in order to provide appropriate care for women's maternal mental health. Following Ruth's presentation a panel of providers knowledgeable in PPD will present information on local services that are available. This workshop will be held on Friday, October 5, 2007 from 8:30 -11:30 a.m. at Tau Center, Room 214, 511 Hilbert, Winona. You may register on line with a credit card, mail your registration to Community Education, 317 Market Street, Winona, MN 55987 or at the door that morning. Three CEU's/Clock Hours are available. Fees: Students $2; Community Members $5; Paraprofessionals/Professionals $20. Cosponsored by the Winona Area Postpartum Depression Support Network and Project COMPASS. Registration and Continental Breakfast 8:00 - 8:30. Workshop from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.
