Home invasion injures two (08/13/2008)
By Sarah Elmquist

Two masked men wielding golf clubs as weapons broke into a home on the 850 block of West Fifth Street early Tuesday morning, assaulting at least two occupants inside.

Police said that the incident was absolutely not random, and that the men entered the home demanding to see a specific individual. Chief Deputy Paul Bostrack said that the two males, who entered the home at about 2:49 a.m., swung the golf clubs and struck one occupant in the upper arm and another in the head. Neither occupant required medical treatment, said Bostrack.

The men swinging the golf clubs broke various nonvaluable items in the home, then took approximately $250. Police said that about $40 came from one of the occupants, and about $210 was in loose cash on top of a desk.

Both men wore long sleeved black shirts, black bandanas over their faces and black caps. One man was reportedly six feet tall and “very stocky, over 200 pounds,” while the other was described as about five foot seven inches and weighing about 180 pounds. One carried a club with a black shaft, the other with a gold or silver plated shaft.

Bostrack said the men were at the residence only about five minutes, and fled before officers arrived. Anyone with information can call police anonymously at 457-6302.
