Governor Tim Pawlenty will be in Winona as guest speaker for the Heroes Among Us memorial dedication on September 11th. The dedication of the 9-11 Unity Monument culminates a three-year fund drive to place a memorial in Winona to the victims, survivors, and first responders of the attack on America in 2001.
The nine-foot tall, eleven-foot wide black granite structure will sit behind the Winona Visitors Center on Huff at Highway 61, with East Lake Winona as a backdrop.
Taking place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 11th at the Visitors Center, Governor Pawlenty will be joined by State Representatives Steve Drazkowski and Gene Pelowski, who will each speak at the dedication. The monument signifies honor to everyday heroes as well – those who come to the aid of neighbors each day as well as during times of distress, as happened last year in flooded areas.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend this dedication that is a reminder of the Unity that is at the heart of Community.
An award dinner will be held at 6:00 p.m. that evening at the American Legion Hall, 265 E. Third Street. Contact Maegan Satka at Winona Radio, 452-4000, for tickets and information.
