Sunday, April 5 is the 31st annual Fools Five Road Race on Lewiston’s Main Street. The starting shot for the one-mile and 8K race will be fired at 1 pm by Lewiston-Altura’s elementary teacher Karen Anderson who is undergoing cancer treatments.
The Fools Five, since its inception in 1979, has raised money for cancer research, totaling well over $1 million. Money raised through pledges and the auction is donated to the Eagles Cancer Telethon and also a portion is donated to Gundersen Lutheran Foundation for cancer research. Runners are urged to get their registrations in early. Forms are available on their web site at www.foolsfive.org and a link to active.com to register online. Anyone raising $20 or more in pledge dollars will receive a free T-shirt.
The Fools Five Auction, chaired by Bruce & Kathy Schott and Ken & Karin Peterson will be held Friday, April 3 beginning at 4:30 pm at the Lewiston Community Center.
This year’s guest speaker is Cancer survivor, Gloria Jansen, of White Bear Lake, MN. She will be speaking in the Lewiston-Altura High School gym following the race.
