Wrestling’s “March Madness” is in full swing now! District and State Qualifiers were held the weekends of March 13th - 15th, and on March 20th - 21st; along with a number of area tournaments as well.
Many youth wrestlers were scattered around the area during these 2 weekends, wrestling hard and winning many awards!
On Friday, March 13th, eighteen wrestlers from the Winona Area Youth Wrestling Club traveled to an N.Y.W.A. (Northland Youth Wrestling Association) District Tournament which was held in Plainview, Mn. All wrestlers winning a first or second place finish in their bracket advance to the N.Y.W.A. Regional Tournament in Rochester on March 28. The following wrestlers competed, and recieved these awards in their brackets: All wrestlers with a * after their names advance to Regional competition.

On Saturday, March 14th, ten wrestlers from the Winona Area Youth Wrestling Club traveled to another N.Y.W.A. District Tournament, which was held in Stewartville, Mn. All wrestlers who have a first or second place finish in their bracket advance to the N.Y.W.A. Regional Tournament in Rochester on March 28. The following wrestlers competed and recieved these awards in their brackets: All wrestlers with a * after their names advance to the Regional competition.

Also on Saturday, March 14th, two wrestlers from the Winona Area Youth Wrestling Club traved to the Minnesota Jaycee’s State Wrestling Qualifier in Waseca, Mn. All wrestlers who place a first, second, or a third place finish in their bracket advance to the State Tournament to be held on March 21st in Waseca, Mn. again. These wrestlers competed and recieved the following awards:

Another tournament was also held on Saturday, March 14. This one was in St.Charles, Mn. at the high School. One wrestler from the Winona Area Youth Wrestling Club competed and recieved this award in his bracket:

On Friday, March 20, seven wrestlers from the Winona Area Youth Wrestling Club traveled to the Chatfield youth wrestling tournament, which was held at the high school in Chatfield, Mn. These wrestlers competed and recieved the following awards in their brackets:

On Saturday, March 21, seventeen wrestlers from the Winona Area Youth Wrestling Club traveled to another N.Y.W.A. District Tournament and competed. All wrestlers who take a first or second place finish their bracket advance to the N.Y.W.A. Regional Tournament in Rochester, Mn. on March 28. Also in this tournament, any wrestler who takes a third or fourth place finish may be able to go to the Regional Tournament, only if the first or second place finisher has already qualified at a previous District Tournament. On Saturday, March 21, one wrestler from the Winona Area Youth Wrestling Club competed in the Caledonia youth tournament, which was held at the high school in Caledonia, Mn. He recieved the following award in his bracket:

Also on Saturday, March 21, one wrestler from the Winona Area Youth Wrestling Club competed in the Cashton youth tournament, which was held at the elementry school in Cashton, Wi. He recieved the following award in his bracket:
Third Grade

And finally, a member of Winona Area Youth Wrestling Club is a State Champion winner!!! Also, another member is the State Runner-up Champion in their bracket as well!!! The Minnesota Jaycee’s State Wrestling Tournament was held March 21 in Waseca, Mn. Two wrestlers from the Winona Area Youth Wrestling Club earned the right to compete here by placing in the top three of their brackets at the State Qualifier on March 14.These wrestlers competed and recieved these awards in their brackets:
