Gypsy moth treatments (04/08/2009)
|
|
This summer, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) plans to conduct aerial treatments in portions of southeastern Minnesota - including Winona County - to protect our forests from new infestations of a destructive exotic pest named the gypsy moth. Treatments may occur in July and August. The MDA has submitted its treatment plan to proper federal and state agencies for review of potential impacts to endangered species and historical sites. An environmental assessment is also being conducted to determine any impact on the natural surroundings. As always, the MDA is working with the Minnesota Department of Health to ensure that the treatments have no impact on human health and safety. Please contact the Minnesota Department of Agriculture at 651-201-6000 or 1-800-967-2474 with any questions or comments.
