Inflatable Boat and Carbon Monoxide Oximeter Included in Grant Package
When seconds count, having the right equipment can make a dramatic difference when responding to an emergency. Now, thanks to a $6,141 grant, the Winona Fire Department will be able to purchase a new inflatable boat and carbon monoxide oximeter.
The donation is being awarded by Bearence Management Group and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. Roughly half the funding will go toward purchasing an inflatable boat designed for rapid deployment in emergencies. The Mississippi River and Lake Winona pose unique challenges for rescuers who must be prepared to respond to a variety of water rescues throughout the year. This boat will play a key role in rescuing victims and performing searches.
The department will also buy a high-tech carbon monoxide oximeter used to measure potentially dangerous levels of carbon monoxide in people. Carbon Monoxide is the leading cause of poisoning deaths in every industrialized nation. With an oximeter the Winona Fire Department will now be able to check carbon monoxide levels in individuals when responding to carbon monoxide calls.
