Truck collides with motorcycle (08/12/2009)
A motorcyclist was listed in critical condition Tuesday after being struck by a dump truck on Mankato Avenue.

Ryan J. Stachowitz, 25, of Winona, was transported to Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse with a serious head injury after the accident at about 8:40 a.m., according to the Minnesota State Patrol. He was not wearing a helmet.

According to police, a Mack tandem truck driven by Lawrence B. Armitage, 63, of Winona, was traveling northbound on Mankato while Stachowitz was traveling southbound on the same roadway. The State Patrol lists the accident as a broadside collision, but information isn’t yet clear about how the two collided except that it happened at the intersection of Mankato Avenue and Sarnia Street.

The truck had a Miller Scrap logo on its side, and the driver was uninjured.

The collision is still under investigation.
