A Winona man convicted of second degree manslaughter for his role in a methadone overdose death in February 2008 was sentenced to four years in prison this week.
Douglas Bruce Zubick, 47, pleaded guilty to second degree manslaughter in the death of Jane Jay Christensen. He admitted he gave methadone to the woman for cleaning his apartment, and agreed to testify against codefendants Jeffrey Lee Frey, 48, and Harold Albert Skroch Jr., 45. As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors dropped a third degree murder charge.
According to criminal complaints, Zubick gave money to Frey to buy the methadone for Skroch. Both Frey and Skroch are charged with third degree murder for their alleged roles in Christensen’s death.
Christensen’s death was ruled an overdose of a mixture of methadone -- a drug prescribed for recovering heroin addicts, and alcohol.
Zubick was also sentenced on four counts of controlled substance crimes in the fifth degree and one controlled substance crime in the third degree for several drug sales in 2008 and 2009.
