The Winona Health Auxiliary Holiday Fantasy of Trees turns Watkins Great Hall into a sea of Christmas lights and sounds for the two-day event opening Friday afternoon. |
The Great Hall at Watkins Manor has been turned into a fantasy land where snowmen and candy canes mingle with goldfish and vintage jewelry to form the most eclectic Christmas display ever.
More trees than ever before were donated to the annual Holiday Fantasy of Trees fundraiser sponsored by the Winona Health Auxiliary, creating a room worth ogling where there is truly something for everyone, even the dog.
Each year, individuals and organizations sponsor fanciful trees limited only by the imaginations of the people who created them. Silent auction boxes will contain bidding wars for the trees. Bidding will last until the end of the day Saturday, November 21st.
The majestic surrounds of the Great Hall and the glittering trees are made complete by the sounds of music wafting through the room thanks to a variety of performers who will take turns entertaining visitors.
Chamber and show choirs from Winona Senior High School and Cotter will be on hand, as will harpists, pianists, organists and a flutist. Musical entertainment will be provided during the event.
The schedule for Friday, November 20:
3 p.m. Nancy Quinn - Harpist
3:45 p.m. Organ Music by Bernette Scherbring
4:30 p.m. Winona Senior High Chamber Singers
5 p.m. Jean Smith on the Watkins Great Hall Organ
5:30 p.m. Cotter High School Show Choir.
On Saturday, November 21, Emily Brom will be playing flute throughout the day. Other scheduled music:
10 a.m. Rod Oppriecht on the piano
11 a.m. Winona Senior High Chamber Singers
1 p.m. Harpist Ensemble
Along with more than 60 decorated trees, the auxiliary offers a sale of holiday decorations crafted by volunteers, boasting candle holders, decked out Santas, prancing reindeer and an array of swags and wreaths that let visitors bring some Christmas spirit home with them.
In the Watkins Great Hall foyer, raffle tickets and gourmet candy round out the two-day event that annually ushers in the holiday season for the swarms who come.
The event also marks Santa’s first visit to town, with an appearance scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Children’s activities will also be offered during that time to keep little hands busy.
Doors are open to Holiday Fantasy of Trees Friday, November 20, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, November 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
