During National Laboratory Professionals Week, April 18-24, Winona Health recognizes its team of 40 laboratory professionals who provide services for patients and staff through the hospital and Emergency Department, Winona Clinic, Urgent Care Clinic, and Lewiston and Rushford clinics.
Using the most up-to-date technology and instrumentation, laboratory professionals help to prevent disease by detecting unknown health problems and by aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of existing conditions. Physicians rely heavily on lab tests in helping identify the presence of disease in its earliest stages when the possibility of a cure is greatest and when treatment is least costly. Lab tests are also necessary to monitor a patientís overall wellness and to plan for ongoing treatment of disease.
Winona Health laboratory professionals are key members of the healthcare team, performing nearly 2,000 laboratory tests on more than 350 patients each and every day. Most tests are completed within 1-2 hours of specimen collection.
