YMCA 7th Grade Boys Runnin’ Rebels Red State Championship season (04/21/2010)

The Winona YMCA 7th Grade Runnin’ Rebels Red had a very successful basketball season this past winter. The team was a member again in the Great Northwest Basketball League and participated in seven league tournaments. The Rebels finished with a 22-6 league record, winning two tournaments and finishing runner up in two others. The Rebels finished their season by participating in the MYAS State 7AAA Tournament in Wayzata, MN on March 13-14 and brought home their 2nd state championship in the last 3 years. The Rebels started the tournament by defeating Roseville 38-25 and then followed that with a commanding win over Hopkins, 47-27. The finely tuned Rebels continued their quest for a championship by defeating the host school Wayzata, 39-25, in the semi-finals. They finished off the tournament by defeating a very big and talented Byron team in an exciting championship game, 33-31, to bring home another state championship. The Rebels finished the year with a 26-6 overall record.
