June 14

Mental Illness:  Support for Family and Friends meetings are the second Monday of the month from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Winona Health – Parkview Conference Room.  The next meeting will be Monday, June 14. No fee just walk in and join us.  Enter the hospital’s main door, turn right, at the hallway take another right.  It’s the second door on the left.  (Next to the snack room.)    For more information call facilitator Cindy Peterson at (507) 458-9045 or Helen Newell at (507) 494-0905.  Cosponsored by NAMI-Winona affiliate and Project COMPASS.

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas will meet for Mass at 5:15 p.m. Monday, June 14. Please wear your badge.  A catered chicken dinner will follow.  There will be installation of officers and reception of new members. Meeting will follow.

June 15

The Buffalo-Pepin Retired Educators will hold their meeting and luncheon at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, at The Cove in Buffalo City, Wis. Guest speaker will be Sari King of WREA, with an overview of the Wisconsin Retirement System. Bundles of Love will meet June 15, at St Paul’s Episcopal Church, 265 Lafayette, Winona, 6:30-9:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to cut out infant clothing, quilts or knit or crochet. T-shirts are being collected to be remade into diapers for Haitian babies. Material, yarn and notions are needed to continue our efforts to provide for needy babies in the local area. June 16

Harvest House, a non-profit, non-denominational organization for 50 and getting better, will hold their monthly meeting Wednesday, June 16, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Stanislaus hall.  Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. with Father Paul Breza as celebrant. There will be a business meeting, with election of officers, followed by bingo.  Bring an unwrapped prize for bingo and a non-perishable food item for a needy family.  Sign up sheet for Lake City June 25.  Non-members are welcome on our trips.  For more information, call Mary Jane at 454-8488 or Mary Ann at 452-5587. June 17

Minnesota City Community Readers will meet at Riverway Learning Community, 115 Iowa Street, on Thursday, June 17, at 6:30 p.m. The selection being discussed is The Help by Kathryn Stockett.   Stockett examines some facets of interracial discrimination  in Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960s.  The public is invited to the discussion whether or not they have read the book.   For information, call 689-2440.   

June 21

Winona Women’s Shrine Auxiliary will move to Westfield Golf Club on June 21.  Registration at 11:00 a.m., meeting at 11:30 a.m., and lunch at 12 noon followed by playing of cards.  The third Monday of the month is the new starting day. Menu chicken chow mien with white rice and chow mien noodles, tossed salad, and dessert prepared by Chef Todd.  Price $8.00.  All women are invited.  Membership is $5.00.  Reservations call Connie Woods at 454-1781.

The Winona County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold its annual meeting at 4:00 p.m. Monday, June 21. The Winona chapter is located at 1660 Kraemer Drive. The meeting is free and open to the public. NAMI Connection: A Mental Illness Support Group. This self-help group for people recovering from mental illness is a place to find acceptance, support and friendship. It meets every Monday evening from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Timber’s Restaurant’s back dining room. There is no fee, just walk in and join us. Overeater’s Anonymous meets Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. at 1717 Service Drive ( Faith Lutheran Church). Many have found a solution.

Al-Anon Family Group Thursdays, 7-8 p.m., St. Augustine Room, Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 360 Main Street. A 12-step fellowship for families of problem drinkers. 452-4445 for more information.
