November 4
The Hiawatha Valley Marines will meet on Thursday November 4, at 7 p.m. at the Winona Area Veterans Center. All members, Marines and Corpsmen who served with the USMC are encouraged to attend. Agenda items include election of officers, finalization of efforts for the USMC Birthday dinner, The vigil on veterans day at the Veterans Memorial Park, approval of HVM involvement in support of Veterans Memorial Park, and a review of the Tots for Tots campaign.
Young at Heart will meet on Thursday, November 4, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart for Mass at 12:10 p.m. followed by a catered meal of turkey with all the trimmings including fresh carrots, pumpkin pie and a beverage. Cost of the meal is only $3.00. After the meal there will be a short memorial service for all those choosing to attend to remember our deceased loved ones. You may bring a photo or personal memento to share. please call Marge Zittel at 454 3433 no later then noon on November 2, for your reservation and if you need a ride. You do not need to be a parishioner to attend, all are welcome.
Sequoia Society will meet Thursday, November 4, at 12 p.m. at the home of Carol Kohner. The program is “A Review of the Life of Ruth Reichl” and will be presented by Pat Doerer.
The Minnesota City First Baptist Ladies Aid will meet Thursday, November 4, at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Maxine Spaag.
This Winona Apron Group will meet at 10 a.m., November 4, at Beno’s, 4th and Lafayette Streets, Winona. Note: We will not be able to meet in our normal meeting room. Please bring your aprons to donate to Winona Volunteer Service food baskets, any apron pattern or design will be accepted. We will also discuss our next upcoming event and business for 2011. The Ruskin Study Club will meet Monday, November 8, at 1 p.m. at the home of Fran Edstrom. Susie Briggs will present her paper. Members are reminded to please call Fran or Donna if they are unable to attend.
The Chautauqua Club will meet on Monday, November 8, at noon at the home of Shannon Hanzel. The co-hostess is Cathy Bartleson and the program will be presented by Leiha Larson.
November 10
Winona County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will hold their regular monthly board meeting at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 10, at the Ag Service Center in Lewiston.
The Fountain City Historical Society will meet Wednesday, November 10, at the museum building at 1:00 p.m. to finalize plans for the annual bake sale and visit from Santa and discuss solar shades for the windows. The Society is looking into purchasing a computer, printer, and software. All are invited and encouraged to attend. We need your input! The bake sale will be December 4, starting at 9:00 am. Santa will visit between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

The Hiawatha Valley Civil War Round Table will meet on Thursday, November 11, at 7:00 p.m. on the second floor of the Winona County History Center, 160 Johnson St. The presentation will be by Tom Hosier of Rochester, who will speak about “The 1st Minnesota Volunteer Regiment.” Everyone is invited and refreshments will be served. Winona Women’s Shrine Auxiliary will meet on November 15, at 11:30 a.m. at Westfield Golf Club to install new officer for the year. Money will be collected for toys to be sent to Shrine’s Hospital in the Twin Cities. Dues will be collected $5.00. Winter weather policy there will be no meeting, if the schools in Winona are closed. Cards will be played. Menu is a Thanksgiving dinner prepared by Chef Todd, which is roast turkey, sage dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, tossed salad, roll and butter, cranberry sauce, pumpkin cheese cake for $8.00. Bundles of Love will meet November 16, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 265 Lafayette, Winona, 6:30-9:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to cut out infant clothing, quilts or knit or crochet. T-shirts are being collected to be remade into diapers for Haitian babies. Harvest House will hold their monthly meeting Wednesday, November 17, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Stanislaus hall. Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. with Father Paul Breza as celebrant, for those wishing to attend. There will be a business meeting. Guest speaker will be Jenny Ready of Winona Health to speak on Memory Care. Bring a non-perishable food item for a needy family. Lunch will be served.

The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) Winona support group meets at 6:30 p.m. the 4th Tuesday of each month in the Parkview Conference Room at Community Memorial Hospital. Meetings are open to patients, family, friends and anyone who wants to learn more about IBD, Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. The November meeting will be held on November 23. A NAMI Connection free peer support group for adults recovering from mental illness meets weekly in Winona. The group is sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Minnesota. Trained facilitators who are also in recovery lead NAMI Connection groups.
