The Passion Proclamation (03/06/2011)
From: TW Schoewe

Once again the calendar reminds us that we are in the season called LENT. This word comes to us from the old English which meant “to lengthen.” Because the days of the year grow longer as we move toward the season of spring, and because our Lord was crucified in the spring, this word was gradually employed by Christians to the forty day period before Easter when the passion history of our Lord is considered at length.

In this season, as He did some 1900 years ago, the Lord sends forth His passion proclamation: “Behold we go up to Jerusalem and all things written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. For He shall be delivered unto the Gentiles and shall be mocked, spitefully entreated and spitted on; and they shall put him to death and the third day He shall rise again.”

That verse really sums up the whole Bible. The verse following that announcement (Luke 18:34) that reads “And they understood none of these things...” is sadly for many still true today!

So again in this season the Church extends the proclamation of our Lord's passion. You are especially urged and invited to attend the services of your choice or faith. There are many opportunities and places of worship in this community. You will find there is plenty of room!

Bear in mind, it is only as we come to understand and appreciate the purpose and the necessity of the Lord's passion history, that we can truly comprehend and see just how the full joy and victory of the Easter Light of our Lord's Resurrection at the end of this dark season really brightens our lives!
