Does God love us? Oh yes, we’re the apple of His eye, we’ve been chosen, hand picked by Him.
Certainly within the past season of Lent and especially through the Triduum we can surely sense how very much, how desperately God loves mankind. With a spiritual insight look upon a crucifix. What do you see? I see the man Jesus giving up His life so I might live (what greater love is there?) eternally in a place called heaven. Leave your spiritual glasses on yet, gaze into the heavens, in comparison we will see this world is just a testing ground for a better place where the gifts of the Holy Spirit dwell, love, peace and joy.
Can’t you see in Jesus’ suffering body how very much He desires that for each of us, without exception? Jesus says, “I grieve, I thirst, I weep for the souls who turn away, those who resist all we want to give them, in place of a few moments of false worldly whims (joys). They give many excuses to resist my graces which lead to eternal salvation - excessive sports, recreation, even work, on and on.”
We are dealing with a jealous God. He asks us to put Him first. Why else did He make the First Commandment to love God with all your mind, heart and soul. Remember as well He expects us to visit Him in His house (the church) at least on Sundays, then add some form of relaxation to that day (keep holy the sabbath day.) Even God rested on the 7th day.
If we start every day with lifting our minds and hearts to God in prayer, it’s surprising how the rest of the day is bound to go better. God says if souls just lovingly glance at me, utter a few kind words, I rush right to them with my mercy. My love is already embracing them.
There is another road - killing, unjust wars, even our children (abortion), immoral sex, cloning, same sex marriages, whatever! Live today for tomorrow you die. No, God says that lifestyle doesn’t bring with it love, joy, peace, etc. Only I can offer these. He does offer them to you and me. Will you accept?
