•At 3:27 p.m. police received a call reporting a man was about to drive over the Highway 43 bridge who had a warrant for his arrest and had a revoked license. Police stopped a vehicle driven by Ryan Peter Merchlewitz, 22, of Houston, at Fourth and Winona streets. Police said Merchlewitz didn’t believe he had a warrant and revoked license, and when the officer re-approached the vehicle after running his license, Merchlewitz drove off. The officer lost sight of him at Johnson Street, but then found him at the parking lot at Fourth and Main streets. Police said Merchlewitz got out and ran and was caught on Main Street. Police later recovered a marijuana pipe in his car and he was referred to the county attorney’s office for potential charges of fleeing police in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, driving after revocation, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing the legal process and no insurance.
Wednesday, September 7
•At 1:39 a.m. police received a call about a vehicle racing on the 700 block of West Seventh Street. An officer observed the vehicle and heard it revving its engine at 10th and Sioux streets and attempted to stop the vehicle. Police said the driver, Shay Douglas Ebertowski, 22, of Rochester, refused to pull over, instead driving for several blocks and failing to stop at several stop signs. Police said Ebertowski stopped on Lincoln Street at the railroad tracks, got out, and ran eastbound through the alley. Police said he appeared to be trying to pull things out of his pocket and then tripped, and police apprehended him. He was referred to the county attorney’s office for potential charges of fleeing police in a motor vehicle, fleeing police on foot, second degree driving while intoxicated, failing to stop at a stop sign, obstructing the legal process, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana. Police said his blood alcohol content was measured at .13 percent.
