Winona’s new all-girls choir “SummerSing” will perform in concert at the Winona County History Center, 160 Johnson St., on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1:00 p.m. Made up of Winona-area girls from grades 8 to 12, the choir is led by Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Liturgical Music Director, Jim Ballard, with Cara Luebke, WSU Music Education major.
The concert will feature a variety of selections ranging from traditional inspirational music to Broadway numbers, including “ Amazing Grace”, “Why We Sing”, “Seasons of Love” from Rent, “You Can’t Stop The Beat” from Hairspray, a medley from the musical Wicked, "Castle on a Cloud" from Les Misérables, and much more.
“The SummerSing choir has been a great opportunity for these young women to stay connected in song,” says Ballard, “and I see a bright future for them as a Winona civic choral group”. The SummerSing choir performed most recently at the Relay for Life (formerly Rivertown Shuffle) held at Lake Park on August 12.
The Sept. 25 concert is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served following the performance.
Ballard and Luebke are very interested in expanding the group. Girls who are interested in joining SummerSing may contact Jim Ballard at jballard@cathedralwinona.org or (507) 452-4770, ext. 17. Watch for publicity about open auditions in the near future.
