October 9

The Luxembourg American Society and the Rollingstone Luxembourg Heritage Museum members will meet at the Senior Center in the Rollingstone Park at 1 p.m. on October 9. On the agenda will be the Treipenfest and election of officers. Refreshments will be served. For transportation or additional information call 507-689-2307. The museum will be open Sunday, October 9 from 9 a.m. until 12 noon for tours. Admission is free. Quilts made by the Holy Trinity Quilters will be on sale as well as cookbooks, shirts, and other items.

October 10

October monthly board meeting of Stockton, Rollingstone, Minnesota City Watershed District will be held October 10, at 7 p.m. at the Stockton Community Center.

The Ruskin Study Club will meet on October 10, at 1 p.m. at the home of Fran Edstrom.  This will be our first meeting of the year. 

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas will meet on October 10, at the Cathedral at 6:30 p.m. for rosary and meeting to follow. Audit Committee will report. CDA Sunday and Gummi Bear Drive will be finalized. Chocolate Chip Cookies Challenge after the meeting. Prize awarded and extra cookies can be purchased. Join in the fun!

The October meeting of the Chautauqua Club will be held on Monday, October 10, at noon.  Sue Wolfe is the hostess and Betty Datta is co-hostess. The program will be presented by Edna Loughlin. Members are asked to contact the hostess if they can not attend.

October 11

The Winona Flower and Garden Club will meet on Tuesday, October 11, 6:30 p.m. at the Eagles Club, 210 East 4th Street, Winona. Master Gardener Emma Roth-Schwartz will discuss Square Foot Vegetable Gardening.  Guests are invited and encouraged to attend.

October 12

Winona County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will hold their regular monthly board meeting at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 12, at the Ag Service Center in Lewiston.

October 13

Natural Living Group meeting October 13, 6:30 p.m. at the Houston Nature Center, Houston, Minn. Topic: Homemade Lotion and Bath Bombs. Contact Tricia 896-4752.

The Whitewater Joint Powers Board will meet on Thursday, October 13, at 8:30 a.m. in the Whitewater State Park Visitor’s Center, 19041 Hwy 74, Altura.

The Hiawatha Valley Civil War Round Table will hold  a joint meeting with the Winona County Historical Society on Thursday, October 13, at 7:00  p.m. at the Winona County History Center, 160 Johnson Street, Winona. Our star will be Patrick Falci of New York, who previously appeared before us as he portrayed the role of Civil War General Jeb Stuart.  This time he will be describing many of the humorous and interesting events surrounding the making of the movie  “Gettysburg,” in which he played a prominent part.

October 17

The Winona Shrine Auxiliary will meet October 17, at Westfield. The menu will be beef tips over noodles, green beans, salad and dessert. Collection of 2012 dues will be held this month. For reservations call Connie Wood at 454-1781.

October 19

Harvest House, a nonprofit, non-denominational organization for 50 and getting better, will hold their monthly meeting Wednesday, October 19, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Stanislaus Hall.  Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. with Father Breza as celebrant, for those wishing to attend. There will be a business meeting.  Our guest speaker is Mayor Jerry Miller with a presentation on the City of Winona.  Bring a nonperishable food item for a needy family and coupons for the military.  Lunch will be served. There will be a sign up sheet for Chanhassen “Plaid Tidings” December 14, deadline November 7. Overeater’s Anonymous meets Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. at 1717 Service Drive ( Faith Lutheran Church).

Al-Anon Family Group Thursdays, 7-8 p.m., St. Augustine Room, Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 360 Main Street. A 12-step fellowship for families of problem drinkers. 452-4445 for more information.

Celebrate Recovery meets Friday nights at Pleasant Valley Church, 1363 Homer Road, Winona. Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered recovery program. If  you are looking for encouragement, strength and hope in your life please join us. Our evenings begin at 6:00 with dinner followed by worship, large group and small group discussions. Winona Widowed Persons Service-No monthly meeting in October. Breakfast remains at the Country  Kitchen every Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. The evening meals will be 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays at Timbers. There will be a noon lunch on October 19, at Ginny’s in Rollingstone. Carpooling will be from the Penney’s parking lot at 11:05 a.m. leaving at 11:15 a.m. For more information call 452-8334.
