Come and listen! (10/30/2011)

From: David Foss

Galesville, Wis.

How many of us are malnourished in Scripture? Most of us are wishy-washy when it comes to the Word of God. Why? Because we donít have our priorities in order. Reading Godís Word isnít even on our list of priorities. Would we ever take eating off the list of things we need to do each day? Yes, food is important, but shouldnít God and His Word have first place on our list of priorities?

An inadequate taking in of Godís Word leaves us defenseless against all the evil that deceptively lurks before us. Without God and Scripture we are an easy target for Satan and his wily accomplices and their ungodly devices. If we are to defeat Satan, we need to put on the whole armor of God. Ephesians 6:11 It is very foolish, very dangerous for us to take the Word of God flippantly and have a mind that is empty of Scripture.

We need to share the good news of Jesus Christ and the Bible with those who have been bound by Satan - those who are being held in darkness.

God has a means of escape for those who are spiritless - God and His Word. Once a person accepts the truth of Scripture and believes in the God of Scripture, then he/she will be able to break free from the grip or control that Satan has on them. 1 John 5:4 Scripture is the best source that we can use to introduce the lost to Jesus Christ.

Jesus said we are to feed ourselves daily with His Word. How can we feed the lost with Scripture if we are unfamiliar with the Bible? We should be full of Scripture, not empty of it. Luke 4:4

We should be invigorating if we are to turn the lost away from inescapable damnation (from weeping and gnashing of teeth). Matthew 13:41-42 What chance do the lost have to receive Christ (having been touched by the Holy Spirit) if the saved do not have a gung-ho attitude? The saved should be inspirational and show enthusiasm and not come across as one with a ho-hum attitude. The lost should see that being saved is enlightenment, not drudgery. A saved person should leave this impression: Try it! Youíll like it!

If the saved are well versed in Scripture, have a willing heart, and rely on the Lord, their witness to the lost should not be as dry as dust, of no effect. Do the saved want to lull the lost into the land of Nod?

Here are some things that will be of benefit when dealing with the lost: be knowledgeable in Scripture, be concise, be optimistic, be genuine, be cheerful, be patient, be unconfrontational, be nonjudgmental, be prepared to answer questions, be specific, be instructive, be in prayer.

Why donít many saved people read and study the Bible? If we donít have time then we donít have our priorities in the right order. If we are to become an effective ambassador for Christ, we need to know and understand Godís Word very well. If we are not prepared, we will fail to see the hearts of the lost turn from Satan to Jesus Christ.

Who better to share our spiritual food with than those who are starving - the lost! The lost are not going to feed one another with Scripture. This undertaking is to be done by whose are are saved. Proverbs 11:30, Daniel 12:2-3. I Corinthians 9:19, James 5:20

Yes, there are millions upon millions (actually billions) who are lost, who are starving Scripturally, who are spiritually dead. Are the saved bringing spiritual food to those who are starving and lost? The saved should be sounding their trumpets and shouting, ďCome and listen to what our Savior has to say to us, to the world!Ē
