Thursday, October 27

•At 9:11 p.m. police were called to the Handy Corner on a report a man had pulled a knife on another man there. Police said they were familiar with the vehicle he was in and stopped it at Fourth and Grand streets. The driver, Emily Elizabeth Tofstad, 26, of Winona, was cited for fourth degree driving while intoxicated after a urine test showed her blood alcohol content was at .17 percent. Police said the suspect who allegedly pulled the knife had been in the vehicle, but charges were not pursued.

Monday, December 12

•At 9:08 p.m. police responded to a report of a shoplifter at Daniel’s Hardware on West Second Street. Police said a 14-year-old Winona boy tried stealing a tee-shirt and was later cited for theft by shoplifting.

Wednesday, December 14

•At 5:10 p.m. police cited Marthamae Kottschade-Brennan, 42, of Rochester, Minn., for violating a harassment restraining order after she allegedly called a man with an order against her.

Thursday, December 15

•At 1:18 a.m. police stopped a vehicle near Taco Bell after observing it weave within the lane and for having an object suspended from its rearview window. The driver, Maria Louise Johnson, 22, of Viroqua, Wis., allegedly appeared intoxicated and was cited for driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content measured at .18 percent. Passenger Kelsey Elizabeth Wedin, 20, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., was cited for giving a false name and date of birth to police and displaying the identification of another. Police said she gave another woman’s ID to them initially, but when it came back with an arrest warrant, she admitted it wasn’t her.

•At 1:34 a.m. police were called to Hardee’s on a report of a fight. When officers arrived there were several people outside near a vehicle. Police said the men appeared intoxicated and they were asked for identification. Brian Donegan Thomas, 19, of Western Springs, Ill., allegedly pulled out a driver’s license, looked at it, and said, “Wait, not that one,” before giving police his ID. He was cited for underaged drinking and possessing the ID of another. Christopher James Malay, 18, of Winona, was cited for underaged drinking and disorderly conduct for allegedly being involved in the fight. Dwight Alan Piotter, 20, of Milan, Minn., was cited for underaged drinking. Phillip James Rendell, 20, of Winona, was also cited for underaged drinking.
