The Hiawatha Civil War Round Table will meet on Thursday, January 12, at 7:00 p.m. on the second floor of the Winona County History Center, 160 Johnson Street, Winona. This will be a two-part meeting. Allan Aldinger will give a presentation on Civil War veterans- the John Ball Post of Winona and the Frank Videto Post of Witoka. This will be followed by a DVD lecture by a noted Civil War scholar on “The River War and Confederate Commerce Raiders.” All are invited and refreshments will be served. Harvest House, a nonprofit, non-denominational organization for 50 and getting better, will hold their monthly meeting Wednesday, January 18, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Stanislaus Hall. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Minnesota sponsors free support groups for families who have a relative with a mental illness. Led by trained facilitators who also have a family member with mental illness, the support groups help families develop better coping skills and find strength through sharing their experiences.
