To say Cotter and Pine Island are two evenly matched high school softball teams is an understatement. At P.I. this spring Cotter won in the top of the eleventh 1-0 with Bethany Wolvington winning out, dueling Steph Schroeder for the win. At Bowlin Field this spring Cotter again survived 1-0. Again outlasting the tough senior, Schroeder, in seven.
Last Saturday at Todd Field in game #4 of the sectional fast pitch girls softball tournament Cotter won 1-0 by making a bang bang play catcher to first for the final out.
Wednesday at Todd Field in Austin Schroeder won 2-1 against a scrappy Zumbrota/Mazeppa team.
Then in a 13-inning beauty Bethany Wolvington, #1 (known as little one) shut out the Panthers of Pine Island 1-0 thanks to a bottom of the thirteenth inning walk off a home run by senior catcher Jessica Weisbrod.
It was a high drive over the left center field fence. It was Jessie's forth round tripper of the year and sends the defending 1AA champion Ramblers to the Minnesota State Tournament in Mankato June 11 & 12.
I feel PI is as good as any team at State. They just have to find a way to get past COTTER.
We will be attending the state tournament at Caswell Field and let you know how it turns out.
