The Whitewater Joint Powers Board will meet on Thursday, January 12, at 8:30 a.m. in the Whitewater State Park Visitor’s Center, 19041 Hwy 74, Altura.
The Hiawatha Civil War Round Table will meet on Thursday, January 12, at 7:00 p.m. on the second floor of the Winona County History Center, 160 Johnson Street, Winona. This will be a two-part meeting. Allan Aldinger will give a presentation on Civil War veterans- the John Ball Post of Winona and the Frank Videto Post of Witoka. This will be followed by a DVD lecture by a noted Civil War scholar on “The River War and Confederate Commerce Raiders.” All are invited and refreshments will be served. January 14
The Minnesota City Historical Association will meet on Saturday, January 14, at Riverway Learning Community, 115 Iowa Street, Minnesota City. The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. and is open to the public. The agenda includes an update on Walt Kelly’s presentation on the “Oaks” which is scheduled for Sunday, February 26, at Riverway. Winona Shrine Auxiliary will meet at Westfield Golf Club on Monday, January 16, at 11:30 a.m. The menu will be pork chops with mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, California blend vegetables, and apple cake dessert. Harvest House, a nonprofit, non-denominational organization for 50 and getting better, will hold their monthly meeting Wednesday, January 18, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Stanislaus Hall. Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. with Father Paul Breza as celebrant, for those wishing to attend. There will be a business meeting. Our guest speaker will be Chief of Police Paul Bostrack. Bring a nonperishable food item for a needy family. Lunch will be served. Sign up sheets for Easter Play “All Things New” Mar. 31 and Fanny Hill “Fox on the Fairway” Apr. 19. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Minnesota sponsors free support groups for families who have a relative with a mental illness. Led by trained facilitators who also have a family member with mental illness, the support groups help families develop better coping skills and find strength through sharing their experiences. The Winona Area Widowed Persons Service will no longer exist as of January 31, 2012. We will continue our breakfast and dinner groups. We will be known as the Widowed Persons Social Group. Breakfast every Tuesday at 8 a.m. at Country Kitchen. Dinners on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. - January at Country Kitchen; February at Culvers; March at Timbers; April at Perkins; (subject to changes if needed). All widowed persons and/or guests are welcome.
