The New Year is still young but have you already lost your temper? It is unfortunately easy to do and it does not take a lot of brains to lose it and blow off at someone on TV or worse yet with someone you work or even live with, perhaps even someone you love.
Once angry words are out they are destructive. Love, trust and joy disappear! The worst thing about angry words is that they live in people’s minds. And for you those words are like toothpaste, once out it’s pretty much impossible to put back into the tube. Others cannot quite forget them and they will continually haunt you from time to time.
Last week we were reminded about our Lord’s “Servant Therapy.” This article is to remind us about “Tongue Therapy” from the Lord’s brother/cousin James. “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, AND SLOW TO BECOME ANGRY, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires” (James 1:19-20.)
How do you find your temper again once you have lost it? You cannot get your words back! You cannot “unspeak” what you have said. What you can do is admit responsibility for your temper blasts, and for those outbursts ask Almighty God for forgiveness for Christ’s sake. Then pray to grow in the grace of controlling your tongue. We all need “tongue control therapy.”
Think how the Lord controlled His tongue for us. Quit thinking that this world is all about YOU! You can grow in the Christian mind set by using your ears to listen and your tongue to build others up. And you can start this therapy today! Right now! Look around and find someone who needs to hear a kind word, a kind word from YOU! Sine cera.
