Cotter High School Chess Club members in Rochester tournament (02/29/2012)
Ten Cotter High School Chess Club members participated in the Rochester Chess Club tournament on February 4th. The club did well with 5 members receiving Bantam event trophies: 1st place, based on “tie-break points”, went to Nick Chang, while Alex Gorka had to be content with 2nd place, although both were undefeated and tied their last game against each other. Other trophy recipients were Li-Wei Tseng, 5th place; and Daniel Kang , 6th place. Club president, Brandon Hyoung, participated in the upper-division “Amateur” section, but found that the competition didn’t seem to care that he was a chess club president. The club will return again to Rochester February 25th for another day-long, 4 round battle of wits in the “Game of Kings”.
