In honor of the hospital’s 50th anniversary at its current location, and in celebration of transitioning to all single-occupancy patient rooms in April, Winona Health is conducting a regional photo competition: HealingScapes.
“This is a special way to celebrate being part of our community and in turn, invite community members to become part of Winona Health,” said Betsy Midthun, chief communications officer. “Winona Health has been the community’s hospital for 118 years; 50 years in the present location.”
Midthun said photos must represent the greater Winona region and can include any scene or landscapes highlighting the natural beauty of the local environment. People, animals, structures, etc. may also be included. “We are looking for photos of the region that will provide comforting and soothing images for patients and their families when they are in the hospital.”
The HealingScapes competition is open to amateur and professional photographers of all ages. Photos taken within the past three years can be entered. Entries will be judged on technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit. Winning entries will be judged by the popular vote of the Winona Health staff, community and also by a panel of professional judges. Winning entries will be framed and placed in patient rooms and include information about the photographer and location of the photograph.
The winning photographs will be announced the week of April 25. All entries will be acknowledged at a special event held on Thursday, May 3, at Winona Health. The event will be sponsored by the Winona Health Foundation in conjunction with National Hospital Week and include a silent auction of the winning photographs.
“This will be a different type of fundraiser,” said Midthun. Bidders can fund a photograph for a patient room and also receive a print for themselves. All proceeds will go to the Winona Health Foundation.
There is no entry fee to the HealingScapes competition and the entry requirements are simple. Entries will be accepted through Thursday, March 22. Details and entry forms are available at www.winonahealth.org/events-resources/healingscapes-photo-competition/
