The Whitewater Joint Powers board will meet on Thursday, March 8, at 8:30 a.m. in the Whitewater State Park Visitor’s Center, 19041 Hwy 74, Altura.
The Hiawatha Valley Civil War Round Table will meet on Thursday, March 8, at 7:00 p.m., on the second floor of the History Center, 160 Johnson Street, Winona. The presentation by James Parlow will deal with a relatively unknown chapter of Civil War history, entitled “the greatest unarmed hero” of the Civil War. The next meeting of the Winona Area Apron Group will be Thursday, March 8, at 10:00 a.m. in the Craft Room at the Winona Friendship Center, 261 Main Street, Winona. New members are welcome as well as old members. Bring any of your projects to share, comments and tips as we will be discussing aprons, quilts, antiques and collectibles, our upcoming shows, cancer beaded bracelets and more. The Friends of the Library will hold its monthly meeting on March 10, at 10 a.m. in the Art Room at the library. Newly elected officers are Angela Lallemont President, Cathy Kreisel Vice President, Melissa Schneider Treasurer, Sue Eckerson Secretary, Tove Wiggs Membership Secretary. The Minnesota City Historical Association will meet Saturday, March 10, at the Riverway Learning Community, 115 Iowa Street, Minnesota City. The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. and is open to the public. The monthly board meeting for the Stockton, Rollingstone, Minnesota City, Watershed District will be held on March 12, at 7:00 p.m. at the Stockton Community Center, 600 D street, Stockton.
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas will meet at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart on March 12, at 4:30 p.m. to prepare for the Soup and Salad Luncheon. A pizza party and meeting will follow. Please bring your paid and unpaid raffle tickets and meal tickets, and donations for The Food Shelf.
The Ruskin Study Club will meet Monday, March 12, at the home of Jeanine Black. Kathy Seifert will serve as co-hostess. Pat Papenfuss will present her paper. Members are reminded to call the hostess if unable to attend.
The Relay for Life of Winona County committee will be meeting on Monday, March 12, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Jefferson’s in the upstairs meeting room. Any community member is welcome to attend. Winona County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will hold their regular monthly board meeting at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14, at the Ag Service Center in Lewiston.
The Learning Club will meet Wednesday, March 14, at Winona County History Center at 10:00 a.m. Poverty In Winona. Sandra Burke, Executive Director of Winona Volunteer Services, will give a clearer picture of what it means to be poor in Winona and the effects of the recession in our community.
