The Winona Soil & Water Conservation District currently has cost-share available for landowners wishing to establish and/or maintain diverse native vegetation buffers using seeds and plants of local ecotype regions. These practices include prairie establishment, lakeshore restoration (including minimal grading for site preparation), stormwater treatment projects, wellhead protection, river/streambank restoration, wetland buffer, and drainage buffers. Eligible costs include: site preparation, seed collection, seeds/plants, mulch, and seeding/establishment costs. Projects must be sustained for a minimum of 15 years.
Funding is limited and is based on practice priority on a first come – first serve basis. Payments are up to 75% cost-share with a maximum of $300 per acre. The seeding practice deadline is June 30, 2012, and to be eligible, an approved application is required prior to planting. For more information on eligibility requirements and to request an application, please contact Daryl or Bree at the SWCD Office at (507) 523-2171 ext. 3 or stop in at 400 Wilson Street, Lewiston. Information is also available at www.winonaswcd.org.
