Coming off a highly successful first hike earlier in the month, the newly-formed Winona Hiking Club has scheduled a second hike for Saturday, June 19th at Whitewater State Park. The club's first hike proved a wonderful social event, as well as a chance to get some exercise while enjoying the great outdoors. Anyone interested in joining the June 19th hike should meet in the parking lot of the Whitewater State Park Nature Store at 9:30 a.m. Those without state park stickers can meet at the Winona Middle School parking lot on Bundy Blvd. at 8:30 a.m. for carpooling to the park. Be sure to bring your binoculars, as 43% of Minnesota's rare animals and plants live in the area!
For this hike only the Winona Hiking Club will be joining with, and learning from, the NorthStar Trail Travelers, a state-wide folkssport club in it's sixth year of operation. The NorthStar Trail Travelers is dedicated to promoting outings in Minnesota's State Parks. Due to the formal and very organized nature of the NorthStar Trail Travelers, there will be a $2 charge per hiker to participate in this hike.
The Winona Hiking Club is a newly-formed group of more than seventy-five area hiking enthusiasts whose goals are to foster communication between hikers, plan trips and outings, maintain existing trails, establish new ones and compile accurate cartographic and naturalist guides for area trails.
