The Buffalo and Pepin County Wellness Coalition will meet on Tuesday, April 24, from 4:30-6 pm in the media center at Pepin Area Schools, 510 Pine Street, Pepin. All people interested in healthy eating, especially during childhood, are welcome and encouraged to participate.
Discussion topics at the April 24 meeting will include an overview of the coalition for new members and an update on the AmeriCorps Farm to School grant application. The group will break into subcommittees (adult obesity, childhood obesity, school wellness, and membership) during the last half of the meeting.
The Buffalo & Pepin County Wellness Coalition formed in 2011. Separate nutrition coalitions had operated in each county before that time, and members decided to pool resources and strengthen efforts to prevent obesity, promote healthy eating, and improve physical wellness. Meetings are held every 4-8 weeks, and locations rotate between the two counties.
Wellness coalition activities are planned to create a vision of “Healthy kids, healthy families, healthy communities,” and the coalition’s mission is to improve the health of all residents through community collaboration. For more information, please call coalition members Lori Miller or Jennifer Rombalski at the Buffalo County Health Department , 608-685-4412, or visit the Buffalo County Web site at buffalocountypublichealth.com/partnerships-coalitions/buffalo-pepi
