WSHS art students participate in U.S. Congressional Art Competition and Show (04/22/2012)
The Winona Senior High School Art Department is pleased to announce the names of 5 very talented students who have had art or photography chosen to participate in the U.S. Congressional Art Competition. These students are: Chris Hansen – with “Boat Houses” done in watercolor; Christina Gile – with “Trees” – done in watercolor; Jessica Neefe – with “Sunset” – done in watercolor; Olivia Staats – with “Calgary in Winona” done as color photography; and Ethan Steidtmann – with “Dandelion” – done in watercolor.

It is a huge honor to have work selected to represent Winona Senior High School in this type of competition! The artwork was chosen from a field of many. Annually the art department at WSHS promotes this and a wide variety of other competitions and exhibits. Hundreds of pieces of student artwork are brought together for consideration in each of them.

The 2012 Congressional Art Competition is open to all students in grades 9 - 12 who either attend high school in or reside in Minnesota’s First Congressional District. The top winning student from each district will have his or her artwork displayed at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. for one year. Winners will be invited to the opening of the exhibit and a reception for all winners in June 2012. Southwest Airlines will provide two tickets for transportation to this event. Student artwork will be shown and judged at the Rochester Art Center by professional artists from April 24th to May 6th. The winner of the competition will be announced in mid-May.

If you have an opportunity to visit the show, the hours for the Rochester Art Center are: Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 am – 5 pm; Thursday from 10 am – 9 pm; Sunday from 12 noon – 5 pm; and closed on Monday and Tuesday. The address is: Rochester Art Center, 40 Civic Center Drive SE, Rochester, MN 55904. Contact info is: info@rochesterartcenter.org. All are welcome.
