April 23

The Winona Area Retired Education Association (WAREA) will meet Monday, April 23, at 8:30 a.m. at Perkins Restaurant in Winona. Officer Kevin Kearney will speak on scams and how to avoid them. April 24

Sons of Norway. Two Birkebeiners saved the life of infant Norwegian Prince Haakon in 1206. La Crosse Sons of Norway President, Eugene Johnson will present this and the American Birkebiener at the Sons of Norway meeting April 24.

The Winona Area Crime Stoppers Board of Directors monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 24, at Timbers Restaurant in Winona.   The meeting begins at 8:00 a.m. and is open to the public.

April 25

The regular monthly meeting of the Hiawatha Valley Education District Board of Directors is scheduled for Wednesday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Conference Room at the Hiawatha Valley Education District, 1410 Bundy Boulevard, Winona. If you have any questions, please contact Glenn Haupt, Executive Director, at 507-452-1200, extension 102.

May 3

Cathedral’s Young At Heart group will meet on May 3, starting with a 12:10 p.m. Mass for those who wish to attend. It will be followed by a lunch at 12:45 p.m. of chicken kiev with wild rice, green beans, Watergate salad with nuts, roll, rhubarb crisp and beverage. The cost of the meal is $3.00. After lunch we will be entertained by The Cotter Show Choir. This is a very special program you won’t want to miss. RESERVATIONS are a MUST and NONE WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE DEADLINE. The DEADLINE for reservations is April 30. Please call Marge at 454-3433 no later than April 30 for reservations and if you need a ride. All are welcome.

Overeater’s Anonymous meets Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. at 1717 Service Drive ( Faith Lutheran Church).

Al-Anon Family Group Thursdays, 7-8 p.m., St. Augustine Room, Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 360 Main Street. A 12-step fellowship for families of problem drinkers. 452-4445 for more information.

Celebrate Recovery meets Friday nights at Pleasant Valley Church, 1363 Homer Road, Winona. Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered recovery program. If  you are looking for encouragement, strength and hope in your life please join us. Our evenings begin at 6:00 with dinner followed by worship, large group and small group discussions. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Minnesota sponsors free support groups for families who have a relative with a mental illness.  Led by trained facilitators who also have a family member with mental illness, the support groups help families develop better coping skills and find strength through sharing their experiences.  A family support group meets in Winona at 7:00 p.m., on the second Monday of the month, at Winona Health, in the Parkview conference room, 855 Mankato Ave. For information, call Helen at 507-494-0905.

Widowed Meet and Eat meets on Mondays at 11 a.m., at Perkins in March and Timbers in April. Please call 452-1555, for information and reservations.

The Widowed Persons Social Group meets for breakfast every Tuesday at 8 a.m. at the Country Kitchen. Dinners every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Ground Round (except 3rd Thursday). Special dinner Thursday, May 17, at Golden Harvest in Utica. Carpooling from old Econo Foods parking lot at 4:30 p.m., leaving at 4:40 p.m. Special noon lunch May 23, at Bonnie Rae’s Cafe in Rollingstone.
