Possible tire failure precipitates two-vehicle crash (04/25/2012)
|
|
The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office received a call on Friday, April 20, at about 6:02 p.m. of a two vehicle crash with injuries on County Road T, south of Spires Lane in Gale Township. A northbound Toyota car driven by Leo Nichols, 23, of Galesville, Wis., crossed the centerline and went into the west ditch. The Toyota then came back onto the road, crossing both lanes of traffic and went into the east side ditch before coming back onto the road, again crossing the centerline and striking a southbound Chrysler driven by Elizabeth Johnson, 57, also of Galesville. Upon impact the Toyota came to rest in the west ditch and the Chrysler came to rest sideways in the southbound lane. Both drivers were treated at the scene by Ettrick and Galesville First Responders and Tri-State Ambulance. They were both transported to a LaCrosse hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota believed that a failure of a rear tire had caused the vehicle to lose control. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The accident is under investigation.
