WSU student wins National Theatre Award (04/29/2012)
Winona State University student Tiffany Streng was awarded the “Margolis Method Summer Intensive Fellowship” at the Irene Ryan National Acting Scholarship Auditions at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. April 20.

Streng (Chicago), a theatre major who will receive her bachelor’s degree this spring, advanced to the all-expenses paid national scholarship auditions after receiving the regional Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Irene Ryan Scholarship at the competition held in January 2012. Streng and her acting partner, WSU freshman Anthony Schliesman (Rochester, MInn.), were selected along with 15 other national nominees to perform at the Kennedy Center.

While in D.C., Streng and Schliesman participated in weeklong workshops with national professionals in the field and performed for a public audience and 14 national judges.

The Irene Ryan Foundation was established in 1971 to award scholarships to the most talented student actors in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. At each of the eight regional festivals, judges select two outstanding student actors to receive $500 scholarships.
