Have you been to Restored Blessings Thrift Store? One year ago a few members of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church had an idea of starting a thrift store. It was presented to St. Martin’s voters and with their approval a new ministry for the congregation was born.
The idea was to collect clothing and housewares in good repair and sell them at a low cost. It also opens doors to share God’s love and peace with those who enter Restored Blessings Thrift Store. The name “Restored Blessings” was chosen to remind those who donate and those who purchase that the items available are a blessing from God, and that the item is now “restored” to God’s use to be a blessing to others.
The founders, Dave and Lois Haase, have been thrilled as this endeavor has provided financial ability for local kids to attend St. Martin’s Day School and Hope Lutheran High School. From the very beginning the store has been blessed with the contents of many homes, articles ranging from A to Z (aprons to zippers). Winona residents have been so gracious to donate items and are so thrilled to hear that all profits stay local.
Restored Blessings has a staff of 50 volunteers. Being a nonprofit organization, no one is paid a salary. Relatives, friends and other volunteers can earn the privilege of applying for tuition grants for students who attend St. Martin’s Elementary School or Hope Lutheran High School. This is a great opportunity for Winona area children to have a Christian education.
Restored Blessings will be celebrating their one year anniversary with a “Blow-Out Sale” May 1-5. There will be daily specials - such as all clothes will be 10¢, linens, pictures, shoes, furniture all 50% off.
Hours are Tuesday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Restored Blessings is located at 350 West Second Street (next to Rochester Wholesale Fruit). Phone 507-474-9480.
