This month Live Well Winona recognizes the Winona Community Foundation as its Making A Difference Award winner. The Foundation was founded in 1985 when Mark Kristiansen, then director of the United Way of Greater Winona, organized a task force to investigate the possibility of forming a community foundation in this area. Members of this task force forged ahead and on January 26, 1987, the Winona Community Foundation was a registered not-for-profit agency and the first donation of $2,000 was received, thus starting the allocation of grants in our community.
Since 2003 the foundation has enjoyed a steady and healthy growth. At the end of 2011, the total of advised grants in the community was in excess of $18,000,000! We applaud and recognize the Foundation for all the wonderful work it has done for the community as it celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
Come celebrate the Winona Community Foundation’s 25th Anniversary on May 17th, 2012 from 4:30-8:30pm, held at St. Mary’s University, Winona, MN. A picnic dinner will be served. For information on the event visit the Winona Community Foundation website at www.winonacf.org or call 507-454-6511.
