Bluffview Montessori eighth grader Olivia Neefe, 13, is the winner of the 2012 Steamboat Days button competition. She is the daughter of Dr. Alan and Dawn Neefe, Winona. About 40 students from the school entered the competition. This is the eighth year a student from the school has won. “I kind of knew I would win,” Neefe said. “But it’s still very exciting.” Art teacher Sandy Borkowski said to get a call every year about a student either winning or being a finalist is unreal. Borkowski includes the Button Design Contest as part of a winter assignment each year. Ms Borkowski said “Olivia has always worked hard to give her best efforts in Art Class. Olivia has turned into an amazing talent and is always enjoyable to have in class. We are just ecstatic for Olivia,” she said. “I emphasize the biggest part of this is it’s a great way to participate in the community and support Steamboat Days.” As the design winner, Olivia will received a gift certificate package, a plaque with her winning design, a ride in the Steamboat Days Kiddie and Grande Parade.
