The Winona County Historical Society’s summer fundraiser event, Chocolate, Shakespeare & Champagne will be held on June 9, 7-9 p.m. at the Historic Huff – Lamberton House. Built in 1857, by Henry Huff, a Winona pioneer and wealthy businessman, the grand Italianate mansion was Huff’s, “statement for the future” of Winona.
In the early 1870s, the Lamberton family moved in and lived there for almost a century until it was sold and became an orphanage and then nursing home. Having been on the market for 5 years, it was recently bought by Bluff City Properties and will remain a historic gem that will be enjoyed by Winona and visitors.
Another new feature to this year’s event will be lawn games on the spacious grounds. All the event’s traditional favorites will be offered as well, including chilled champagne, decadent chocolate desserts and of course a preview of Season 9 by the Great River Shakespeare Festival.
Chocolate, Shakespeare & Champagne tickets are available at the History Center (160 Johnson St.) or you can charge by phone by calling 507-454-2723 ext. 0. Tickets are $20 for WCHS members, $25 non-members. Learn more as www.winonahistory.org and stay up to date with Winona County history with Facebook.
