The Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) and the Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (aka MCA, Valencia) are teaming up to offer a summer visual arts camp for area youth. This camp will offer a sampling of three different types of art-making and will each be led by a different working artist. The camp will meet at both MCA and the MMAM throughout the week of June 11th-15th.
Two sessions are available. Session I is for children entering grades 2 to 4 and will meet from 9 -11am each day. Session II is for youth entering grades 5 to 8 and will meet from 1 – 4:30pm each day. The week will start off with a day of drawing with artist Julie Johnston. Younger campers will explore different techniques and older campers will learn ways to capture themselves through self portraits. Book artist Jill Krase will work with participants by exploring unique ways to create books. Participants will cut, glue, fold, and even sew books that are 2D and 3D! Lastly, printmaker Bonnie Schetski-Heineman will teach campers the basics of printmaking. Campers will carve and print a plate, as well as experiment with lithography using items from an ordinary kitchen!
More information is available by calling MCA at (507) 453-5500 or the MMAM at (507) 474-6626. There are only a few spots remaining in these camps. Interested individuals can call MCA (507-453-5500) to register.
