Perrot state park events (06/20/2012)
All programs are free, thanks to the Friends of Perrot, although a vehicle sticker is required for all motor vehicles stopping in the park.

Saturday, June 23

10:30am: Master Caster

Join Steve and learn all you need to know about fishing! Practice your casting skills, hone them with the help of a master, and possibly learn a few knots along the way.

2:00pm: Mighty Mound Builders

Starting with a short video, we will explore the pre-historic people known as the Mound Builders and take a short walk to nearby conical and effigy mounds.

5:00pm: Meet a Ranger

Stop by the Nature Center between 5pm and 5:30pm and chat with a real live Ranger! Get to know the humble guardians of our park and learn about all the cool gear they have to help them protect our resources and stay safe.

8:30pm: Sunset over the Bay

Andrea will be sitting on the observation deck opposite the Black Walnut Nature Trail until sunset. This is her favorite spot to watch the sun go down and the critters tuck themselves in for the night. She will have lots of info to share with those who stop by.

Saturday, June 30

10:00am: Bugbox Safari

This crazy summer has been marvelous for our resident critters! Join Andrea for a careful search of prairies and bay (staying dry, of course) using the best exploration tool available...the Bugbox! Bugboxes are available to borrow for free or take home forever for $2. All ages are welcome!

1:30pm: Orienteering for Everyone

Learn the basics of magnetic compass use! This old-fashioned, trusty navigation device is a must for outdoor explorers. It makes a perfect partner for GPS units and never needs batteries. No experience necessary as we cover the essential skills for following and creating orienteering courses. Compasses are available for use during the course.

7:00pm: Life of a Soldier

Stop by the Encampment and meet two early French marines. Learn about this tough lifestyle that required guts and determination.
