The Relay for Life of Winona County is inviting all Winona County residents, businesses and organizations to help raise $50,000 in 2012. The Relay For Life brings our community together to celebrate life, honor those touched by cancer and raise funds for the American Cancer Society’s programs for research, education, advocacy, and patient services. These programs can reduce cancer deaths, cancer incidences, and improve the quality of life of the 9.7 million cancer survivors living today. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Winona County will be held in Winona, MN at the Bandshell at Lake Winona on Friday, August 10.
In 2011, 79 patients and their families in Winona County received programs and services from the American Cancer Society, with 40 of those being residents who were newly diagnosed. Just to name a few of the programs/services patients in Winona County utilized were Look Good Feel Better (24 Patients), 10 individuals received gifts (Scarves, Prosthesis, ect.), 6 individuals received wigs, another 22 received transportation assistance to and from treatment while another 17 received gas cards to help reduce the cost and financial burden of traveling to from treatment. But above all, there were several patients from Winona County who used our Hope Lodges. This provided the patient and their caregiver with free housing and lodging while they were receiving treatment, at absolutely no cost to the patient or their family. This service, along with all the others offered by the American Cancer Society would not be possible without the combined efforts of individuals and Relayers from Winona, around the state and even country.
Every dollar that is donated to the American Cancer Society plays a huge part in helping people Stay Well, Get Well, Find Cures, and Fighting Back against cancer!
