Emma (Marhula) Sneed, age 90, of Winona, Minn., and formerly of Fergus Falls, Minn., died on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at Lake Winona Manor.
Emma was born on July 6, 1921, in Roosevelt, Minn., to Frank and Mary (Jemelka) Marhula. She was a 1939 graduate of Williams High School and also graduated from Bemidji State Teachers College in 1943 and Moorhead State College in 1974. Emma went on to teach Second Grade at Williams School and Special Education at Frazee Elementary. During the summer of 1945, she worked at Boeing Art Airplane factory in Seattle, Wash., where she riveted airplanes, such as “Rosie the Riveter.” On June 24, 1946, she was united in marriage with William Cannon Sneed in Hennepin County, Minn.; he preceded her in death on August 17, 1986.
She was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Elizabeth, Minn., where she was very active and especially enjoyed being the housekeeper for the priests for many years. Emma also loved nature and music.
Emma is survived by her children, Thomas Sneed and Judy (David) Thorn; grandchildren, Jeremy Thorn, Joshua Thorn and Sara Sneed; siblings, Adolph Marhula, Anna Gaffrey and Stanley Marhula; as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; and siblings, Rudolph Marhula, Sylvia Mercil, Lydia Dirkx and Ernest Marhula.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 6, 2012, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home. The Very Reverend Thomas J. Hargesheimer officiated.
Emma was laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
